A stupidly simple productivity method that works

I originally heard this idea a year or two ago from Tim Ferris's podcast with Jerry Seinfeld.

Jerry Seinfeld was talking about how writing his material has always been a really painful, difficult process for him.

To combat his tendency to procrastinate, he uses the following foolproof method.

For a set amount of time, you can either write, or do nothing. You don't have to write, but you can't do anything else.

His thing was writing, but I use it for anything I need to do. It just works.

It's hard to describe exactly why it works, but my best description is instead of forcing yourself to do the thing, you just artificially constrain your choices down to "boredom" and "anything else." Boredom is one of the most painful things there is, so you "choose" the less painful option.

It's obviously a self-psyop, but sometimes, a simple reframing of a situation is all it takes.
